StoneSoup Community Venture is proud to announce its newest program, Opportunity Tulsa!
Just like the folktale of Stone Soup, we have consistently centered our work on access to food in our community and the ways that people can come together to create solutions. In our earliest years, we cast vision for a food security campus in the heart of Tulsa. Then, with Tulsa’s Table, we offered pay-what-you-can community cafes where those who were food insecure could have a seat at the table despite an inability to pay with cash. Today, our work with Opportunity Tulsa is centered on what we believe is the root problem of hunger and poverty; barriers to opportunities to enter and participate in the workforce where living wages can be earned.
There’s a familiar adage that says give a person a fish and they will eat for a day. But teach that individual to fish and they will eat for a lifetime. While this may be true, we also believe that opportunities to throw your line into the ponds where the fish are located must also be a part of the equation. So it is that Opportunity Tulsa is offering pathways and possibilities for those seeking access. Together with local restaurant and business leaders, our culinary job skill training for 16 to 19 year-old students connects them directly to a pool of employment opportunities across the city. With support and guidance throughout, our students can build a career pathway to earning a living wage or to take the next step in life.
